So for 8 years they were awesome, and for 15 years that have been awful. If you do it that way then they have been bad longer than they were good. Even if you like the Black Album take that into consideration, then you have 1981-1991 which is 10 years of awesome music, then Load came out in 1996 and from 1996-2006 they have been putting out shitty music for 10 years hence they haven't really been Metallica in about 10 years. Once they cut their hair and started putting blood and cum on the covers of their albums they ceased to be Metallica and became gay. |

Metallica was always more of a guitar driven band anyway, the riffs and solos were almost always their main focus. They probably wouldn't have made it very far if it weren't for those great British/European influenced riffs and Kirk's and Cliff's solos. |
